Greenhouses S M L XL XXL

A green heart in the citycenter of Utrecht, the Netherlands, at the head of the Lombok district, just behind the Central Station. A new urban concept for an inner-city location with a lot of potential as a leisure area for all inhabitants of the city.

The fundamental idea for this concept is a series of five varied size greenhouses with different functions. All the greenhouses exist of two distinguished parts: the lower part is made of wood while the upper part consists of metal and glass. This dual design shows the essential difference between the higher and lower area of the plan. The top part of the plan has a kind of business, hard look with its square design, lighting and material use. The nature, in the form of special tropical trees, can be found on the background and behind glass.
Inhabitants who quickly want to travel from the citycenter to the Lombok district can directly cross the area without any detours. Visitors who have more time and want to wander around in the park, can access the lower situated area of the plan by entering the greenhouses and go down with the stairs. The use of wood on the lower part of the greenhouses and the huge amount of trees makes this area a nice place to reside.
The greenhouses will be closed at night, so only the bridges will be open for visitors as walking and cycling routes.

As said, my design exists of a series of five greenhouses (S-M-L-XL-XXL) in an area with European trees. The first greenhouse can be found in a lighting pole, with the smallest possible tree e.g. Bonsai Number two (1x1m), places in the park, has on the lower part a bench element.
The third greenhouse (4x4m) creates on the bottom a meeting point for all sorts of groups, young and old. The fourth greenhouse (6x8m) creates room for a café or restaurant. The two big greenhouses (8x20m) serve on both sides of the plan as kind of entrance beacons of the area. Inside you find special trees, and the total functions as an arboretum.

The different greenhouses give space to special trees from all over the world and therefore create a link with the multicultural district Lombok.
